Illustration BFA Programs
Aspiring illustrators can hone their creative and technical skills in this four-year program. It provides a broad foundation in drawing, painting, and design, while also offering four focuses that help students explore specific professional areas.
Graduates work in visual development for animated film and video games, editorial illustration, toy design, and more. Notable alumni include rock musician Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Mark “Crash” McCreery, creature designer on movies like Batman Returns, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars.
Rhode Island School of Design
The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is a leading art and design college. Its students come from all over the world and earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 22 majors. Its curriculum emphasizes creative thinking, industrial design, and superior craftsmanship. Students are encouraged to experiment and develop their skills through hands-on learning. The school also offers non-credit RISD Continuing Education courses for adults, teens and kids. Among its notable alumni are actor James Franco, designer Ryan Trecartin and founding members of Talking Heads, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz.
Founded in 1877, the school is known for its state-of-the-art research facilities and high-quality education. The school offers 16 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate programs, as well as an experimental and foundation program for first-year students. The school also offers a number of scholarships for its students from around the world. It is ranked 4th in the US News and World Report 2024 list of Best Colleges for Regional Universities North.
ArtCenter College of Design
The ArtCenter College of Design is a leading school in the field of art and design. Its programmes include graduate and undergraduate degrees in graphic design, film, illustration, and transportation and product design. The college is also renowned for its vocational training, and offers career support programmes through workshops, mentoring and work experience. It also runs a series of public programmes for children and adults, including ArtCenter at Night.
The college’s graduate industrial design (Grad ID) programme is consistently ranked highly by the Design Futures Council and U.S. News and World Report, and the school’s alumni occupy top strategy positions at innovative organisations such as LEGO Concept Lab, Second Road, and Toyota. The college does not provide on-campus housing, but its Center for Student Experience can help students find off-campus accommodation.
The university’s full-time undergraduate enrollment in 2021 was 1,990, and the graduate enrollment was 329. The majority of students are Asian, and the university is more diverse than most Special Focus Institutions.
Founded in 1887, Pratt Institute offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of art and design, architecture, library science, and information studies.
